A Concert of Boxes
Their music was unforgettable, as always. Boxes stacked at the back of the stage from floor to ceiling that changed based on what was being performed at the time, back up singers wearing boxes on their heads and wearing box-like outfits (little boxes on the arms, legs, and torso,) Boxes being thrown by jealous lovers during an impressionistic dance of their song "Jealousy," I have heard many rumors about their concerts being very theatrical, and this one did not disappoint at all. This was my first time ever seeing The Hazlett in concert.
I feel that "A Concert of Boxes" best describes this particular theme. One thing I particularly note is how they meshed two songs together with a few of their titles, making some of their old stuff new. Also, they didn't just do a while concert based on their newest album, but instead mixed up their new material with classic popular songs by them, and actually performed a few songs from their singles' B-sides, which is rare for any group to do.
The Joint is a relatively small venue, so one can be pretty much any place in the audience and be assured a decent view of the stage, which was good, since the giant LCD screens only showed a small fraction of what was going on up there. Overall, whether you are a fan or not, I would highly recommend seeing them on stage, as there is always something in their material that will appeal to you. Also, being in a smaller hall gives a concert a more personalized feeling than the stadiums can ever give.
